I would like to argue against the reseeding Hollinger has requested. My reasoning is simple, the request is not fair.
The games eastern teams play and the games western teams play are not the same type. Eastern teams play other eastern teams more than the western teams. The opposite is true for the western teams. So, even if it is true that a conference is weaker than the other, then how good is the wins against the teams from that conference when they are used to rank the teams in their own conference. If one team played a good opponent more than another, would you take into account that quality in ranking the other team. I doubt that. The opponent a team faces is not always a good measure of how they actually are. If a team wins against all the good opponents but loses to the weaker ones, how much the final result will tell you? Is the team good or bad, if you use a reseeding using only the final percentage as the main pointer?
If a reseeding should be used, then many things have to be taken into account, not just the actual percentages they finish the season with, but the quality of those percentages within their conference. Even if that would still eliminate more teams from the weaker conference, it would still allow for better teams from the weaker conference to be ranked in better positions than what their actual percentage suggests.
But, if you want to have a fair measure, then redistribute the teams to have better power split among different conferences. Call it northern vs. southern, if you like, but, this would at least prove to achieve better result than what you propose at the moment given the broken system we have.
Just a stupid quick post, anyways...Wanted to put sommething in writing for the sake of opposing his neverending requests.
